  • SI: Shipping Instruction

  • CBSA: Canada Border Services Agency - a web-based portal used in linking the association of a corporate customer account to Jenik Services.
  • VGM: Verified Gross Mass (VGM) - used for container weight verification 
  • ECTN: is Electronic Cargo Tracking Note and is required for All West African Countries.
  • LOI: Letter of Interest
  • INTTRA: is a web-based ocean trade platform used to plan, book and track shipments.
  • BOL or BL: Bill of Lading is a legal document issued by a carrier to acknowledge receipt of cargo for shipment. 
  • Cargo: the bulk of goods conveyed by water, air, or land. 
  • Customer SI Form: In-house document used to request for customer’s shipping instructions having the following details; information of the shipper, consignee, description of cargo in the container, etc….
  • ETA: Actual Arrival Time; ETS: Estimated Time of Sailing
  • Booking: Space reservation with a shipping company to carry your cargo
  • Booking Number is a reservation number prior to the Bill of Lading completion
  • Consignee: Person or company to whom commodities are shipped.
  • Consignor: The person or company has shown on the bill of lading as the shipper.
  • Container: A detached truck trailer body for loading into a vessel. A container may be 20 feet, 40 feet, 45 feet, 48 feet, or 53 feet in length; 8'0" or 8'6" in width, and 8'6" or 9'6" in height.
  • Cut-Off Time: The latest time cargo may be delivered to a terminal for loading to a scheduled train or ship.
  • Demurrage: A penalty charge against shippers for delaying a shipment/container at the port of loading or destination beyond the allowed free time.
  • Freight Forwarder: A person whose business is to act as an agent on behalf of the shipper to arrange transportation services. 
  • POD: Port of discharge

Air Freight

  • Cargo: the bulk of goods conveyed by water, air, or land.

  • Booking: Space reservation with an airline to carry your cargo
  • Consignee: Person or company to whom commodities are shipped.
  • Consignor: Person or company shown on the bill of lading as the shipper.
  • Cut-Off Time: The latest time cargo may be delivered to us for loading to a scheduled airline.  the shipper to arrange transportation services. 
  • POD: Port of discharge
  • POL: Port of loading

  • Airway Bill (AWB): - is a document that accompanies goods shipped by an international courier, which allows for tracking. It serves as a receipt of goods by an airline, as well as a contract of carriage between the shipper and the carrier. It's a legal agreement that's enforceable by law.  It contains all of the package information as well as its barcoding and the 12-digit number used to track your shipment on its journey.

    • Consolidation: these are shipments grouped with other cargo. It is also known as “Groupage” 
  • HS Code: Harmonized System Code. It is developed by the World Customs Organization (WCO) to classify and define internationally traded goods. 
  • DGR: Dangerous Goods, also referred to as hazardous goods. They are substance or materials that are flammable, corrosive, and poisonous in nature.
